BANGOR Foodbank and Community Support has been awarded £351,559 from the National Lottery Community Fund.
The grant will provide emergency food parcels and support services for people experiencing food poverty.
Over three years the project will fund running costs for Bangor Foodbank; funds also went to the setting up of a new foodbank in Portaferry for people living in
the Ards Peninsula area. The project will also further develop their community
space by installing a lift, providing support services including debt advice and
cookery lessons, and signposting to other community services.
Ken Scott from Bangor Foodbank said: “Receiving support from The National Lottery Community Fund has been transformative for us, empowering us to expand our services and reach more people in need.
“From setting up a new foodbank in Portaferry to providing low-cost Christmas cookery lessons, these three years of funding will help us to create a lasting impact in the Ards and North Down area for people struggling with the rising cost of living.”
Also receiving funding in the area is Ballykeel Defenders LOL 417; their grant of £20,000 will be used for a refurbishment of the lodge’s hall in Craigantlet, making the premises more accessible for community groups, and replacing windows, improving lighting and providing a disabled toilet.
Holywood Shared Town is using a £19,780 grant over one year to make
improvements to the Men’s Shed premises to create a safer and more usable
environment for members to store equipment, socialise and learn new skills.
