PERSISTENT rain in Craigantlet forced event organisers to take the decision to cancel the opening round of the Motorsport UK British Hillclimb Championship on Saturday.

Although the British event was curtailed, local drivers still managed to complete two runs rather than the intended three, with the speedy Tom Woodside (Gould GR55) topping the Northern Ireland entry, a fortnight on from his convincing win at Croft Hill Climb in Holywood.

Alan Cassells (Force HRC) was second in the local standings, with Steven Rob (OMS28) coming third.
