NAFL DIVISION 1B
BANGOR AMATEURS 2
ST LUKES 4
BANGOR Amateurs were left to mull over a first half in which they conceded three times as high-flying St Lukes made it six league wins in a row with victory at Ballyvarnet.
Feeling confident off the back of last week’s win at Grove, the hosts were also able to call upon Jack Shaw again after his recent absence.
But they found themselves trailing after just five minutes when Paul O’Rourke headed the away side into the lead.
Francis Dugan added to the Amateurs’ woes on the half-hour mark as he doubled the St Lukes advantage. And with five minutes to go until half-time the home side were caught playing out from the back and went three behind.
Stuart Beattie gave the Amateurs a lifeline early in the second half, before Ryan McCurdy headed wide a Scott Majury cross.
Five minutes later Beattie got his and the home team’s second as St Lukes found themselves under increased pressure.
Things appeared to get better for the Amateurs when O’Rourke was dismissed for the visitors for a second yellow card, however a mistake from goalkeeper Ewan Smyth with less than 10 minutes to go led to a fourth for the away side, as hopes of an Amateurs turnaround were extinguished.
