Amateurs record first league win

NAFL DIVISION 1B

Newcastle Town 2

Bangor Amateurs 3

AFTER a difficult start to their NAFL Division 1B campaign, Bangor Amateurs collected their first three points of the season with victory away at Newcastle Town on Tuesday evening.

TJ Young’s side suffered a bruising derby defeat to Bryansburn Rangers on the opening day of the season before being held at home to Portaferry Rovers in their following game.

They were then edged 2-1 by 18th Newtownabbey Old Boys at the weekend and, at half-time at Bear Park on Tuesday, it was wearing the look of three defeats from four as goals from Leigh Moore and Jack McCourt had hosts Newcastle two to the good.

But the Ams found themselves back on level terms after seven second-half minutes thanks to summer signings Stuart Beattie and Matty Clements. Former Ards Rangers man Beattie was at it again 20 minutes from time, scoring what proved to be the winner for the Ballyvarnet club.
