ASSISI Animal Sanctuary is celebrating the contribution of its volunteers, members and supporters as it looks ahead to an exciting summer of events, community engagement and new opportunities.
As Volunteer Week was marked across Northern Ireland, the charity took the opportunity to thank the many individuals who give their time, skills and energy to support animals in need.
From caring for animals at the sanctuary and fostering vulnerable pets, to supporting retail stores, fundraising activities and community events, volunteers remain at the heart of Assisi’s work.
Chair Alex Harbinson said:
“Volunteers are the lifeblood of Assisi. Their commitment, compassion and generosity make an incredible difference to the lives of animals every single day.
We are fortunate to have a fantastic community of volunteers, supporters, members and staff who share a common goal of giving animals a second chance. Volunteer Week provides an opportunity to recognise and thank them for everything they do.”
The charity is also preparing for one of the highlights of its annual calendar – the much-loved Assisi Doggy Reunion Day, which will take place later this summer.
The event brings together dogs rehomed through Assisi and the families who have welcomed them into their homes, creating a celebration of successful rehoming stories and the special bond between pets and their owners.
Alex continued:
“Our Doggy Reunion is always one of the most enjoyable events of the year. It is a wonderful reminder of why Assisi exists and the difference that can be made when animals are given the opportunity to thrive in loving homes.
We look forward to welcoming many familiar faces from our community – both human and canine – and sharing details of the event in the coming weeks.”
The charity is also exploring exciting opportunities to raise awareness of responsible pet ownership and animal welfare through wider media engagement.
Assisi is currently in discussions with a children’s television producer regarding potential participation in an educational programme focused on the unique relationships between pets and their owners.
While discussions remain at an early stage, the charity hopes the opportunity could help inspire and educate younger audiences about animal welfare, responsible pet ownership and the important role animals play in people’s lives.
Alongside these initiatives, Assisi continues to progress improvements across its operations and facilities while focusing on its core mission of rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming animals from across Northern Ireland.
