IT has been a fantastic season for the athletes at Glenlola Collegiate School, winning medals galore across a number of disciplines at local, provincial and national competitions.
Emma Reid was crowned Intermediate District Athletics Championship girls’ discus and shot put champion and was joined in topping the podium by Caitlyn Dickenson, who won the girls’ intermediate 300m, and 200m walk gold medallist Carys Nicolai.
Isla Parkes completed the lineup of Glenlola intermediate medallists, taking bronze in the javelin event.
In the Senior District Athletics Championship, Katie Hunter secured gold in the girls’ high jump, while Tess Phillips and Ruby Sterett claimed bronze medals in the girls’ javelin and 100m respectively.
The Mini, Minor and Junior District Athletics Championships resulted in similar success for the school, with Poppy Earl winning the junior girls’ 75m hurdles, while Jessica Liddle topped the standing in the junior girls’ high jump and finished runner-up in the long jump.
Daisy Mullin enjoyed a double success, winning the minor girls’ long jump and 100m, with Jessica Fowles clinching silver in the latter event.
The minor girls’ 4x100m relay team of Mullin, Fowles, Eve Sloan and Emily Smyth also became district champions.
Earl used her district victory as the springboard to securing a 75m hurdles gold and 200m bronze in the Ulster Schools Championships.
Liddle enjoyed another double-medal success at the provincial tournament, winning the long jump and taking second in the high jump.
The Glenlola district minor girls’ 4x100m relay champions finished runners-up at the Ulster Schools, while Reid claimed a discus gold and shot put silver.
There were also Ulster silver medals for Nicolai (2000m walk), Dickenson (3000m) and Hunter (high jump).
Reid and Earl did not stop at district and provincial tournaments either, going on to claim respective discus silver and 200m bronze at the Irish Schools Championships.
