A SECOND successive treble triumph could be on the cards for the rugby players of Bangor Academy and Sixth Form College. The Under-16 team retained the Pollock Cup with a 29-10 win over Ballymoney High School last Wednesday, adding to the High Schools’ Cup title claimed in December by the Under-18 team, who beat Carndonagh Community School (Donegal) 27-7 to lift the silverware for a second season running. The Academy’s Under-16s now progress to the quarter-finals of the High Schools’ Trophy, facing either Glastry College or Ballyclare High School. Should Bangor make it to the final at the Kingspan Stadium in March and win, it will match the High Schools’ treble which they achieved a year ago.The school has also had success in the grammar schools’ competition, progressing to the semi-final of both the Medallion Trophy and the Schools’ Cup Bowl.It has been another very rewarding year of rugby for the school as it continues to build with 40 boys also due to travel to Portugal in April to compete in the Lisbon Youth Festival.
