Bangor-based artist Brendan Jamison has taken his iconic cube-based art to impressive new heights with the unveiling of a striking steel sculpture series in Dallas, Texas, opening to the public on Monday, July 7.
Famed for his intricate sugar cube sculptures—one of which is permanently housed at North Down Museum—Brendan has now reimagined the cube concept in steel, collaborating with fellow County Down sculptor Mark Revels on a monumental new project.
The duo spent five months creating three towering cube-based sculptures, ranging from 8 to 12 feet in height, constructed in Northern Ireland before being shipped to the United States. The pieces are now permanently installed in the interior courtyard gallery of 2811 Maple Avenue, a new 30-storey skyscraper in Dallas’s vibrant Uptown arts district.
Commissioned by Houston-based design firm Mayfield and Ragni Studio (MaRS), the project marks a significant international milestone in Brendan’s career.
Speaking about the installation, Brendan said:
“These sculptures are inspired by two decades of working with sugar cubes, exploring the elegance and symmetry of the cube in architecture and interior design.
“For this Dallas series, we allowed light to flood through the open cube segments, creating a transparent effect. This means visitors approaching from any angle can experience the flow between the interior and exterior of the lobby.”
Mark Revels added a poetic layer to the interpretation:
“The sculptures are designed as a family—a mother, father and child—in silent conversation. They emerge from a pool of shimmering turquoise glass, evoking the peaceful atmosphere of a desert island, a space in perfect harmony with nature.”
The steel artworks offer both architectural intrigue and emotional resonance, showcasing the power of contemporary sculpture to blend form, light, and narrative in a public space.
With the opening just days away, both artists return to Northern Ireland proud to have left a permanent creative mark on one of America’s most dynamic urban landscapes.
