BANGOR Barracudas’ U-14 girls lifted the Tommy Kirk Memorial Trophy in Belfast, going undefeated throughout the tournament.
Bangor progressed through the group stage with impressive victories over Clonard and Cathal
Brugha, before overcoming Newry in the semi-final and a talented Diamonds team in the decider as they secured the title.
The achievement was made all the more special by a number of 11- year-old players competing and succeeding in U-14 water polo for the first time.
Despite their inexperience at this level, the team played with confidence and maturity throughout the competition, demonstrating the strength of the club’s thriving youth programme.
Head coach Jane Reilly, who was supported by assistant coach Anna Reilly and team manager Nicole Stewart, not only praised the team’s success, but also the culture within the squad.
“Winning the Tommy Kirk Memorial Trophy is a fantastic achievement for Bangor Barracudas, but what pleased me most was seeing how our more experienced players supported the younger members of the squad throughout the tournament,” she said.
“Co-captains Chloe Stewart and Tilly Beattie, alongside Brooke Burnside and Mollie Nesbitt, were outstanding mentors both in and out of the pool.
“They encouraged their younger teammates, all of whom got valuable game time and helped create a genuine team performance where every player played their part.”
The victory reflects the continued growth of youth water polo at Bangor Barracudas and the club’s commitment to developing players of all ages.
The U-14s Boys also played in the tournament and are beginning to show real potential under coach Barry O’Callaghan, delivering improved performances as they made their way through the end-ofseason competition.
