BANGOR boxing star Dylan Eagleson has made his return to competitive action after more than a year’s absence from the sport.
At last weekend’s Ulster Elite Championships in Belfast, the 2022 Commonwealth Games gold medallist was back between the ropes for the first time in 15 months and just two months after undergoing surgery on his troublesome right hand.
Eagleson was made to work for his 4-1 split decision win over Jordan O’Donnell in the semi-finals as he advanced to Saturday’s elite final against Erne Boxing Club man and current title holder Rhys Owens.
The 21 year-old came out on the losing side of a close contest with Owens at 60kg and, while disappointed not to have taken the title off the Fermanagh ace, once the dust settles the St Paul’s southpaw can view his return as an achievement in itself.
“I’m just happy to be back,” said Eagleson.
“I want to prove to people that you can come back from injuries and it’s not the end of the world when I thought it was.”
