BANGOR Netball Club’s seconds met Newry for their second clash of the season last Wednesday.

After braving the fog on the drive down, Bangor were ready for a tough match. The first quarter started off neck and neck, with Bangor’s defence of Louise McMullan (GK), Linda Kerr (GD) and Ellie Green (WD) working hard against the Newry attack.

Locked together at 8-8 going into the second quarter, Bangor found their groove with mid-court players Chloe McAvera (C) and Chloe Creighton (WA) supplying Roslyn Neill (GA) and Anna Devany (GS) for some clinical shooting. Hard work across the court and defensive steals followed through to goal helped Bangor pull ahead by nine, 25-16, with some impressive goal streaks.

In the third quarter Bangor made an attacking end switch, with Chloe McAvera taking up the mantle at GA. They began the quarter with a four-goal streak and steadily increased their lead to 36-23.

Abby Bittles was introduced in the final quarter for Bangor as Newry began to capitalise on the visitors’ tiredness. After a nail biting quarter, Bangor managed to maintain their lead and ran out 48-41 winners.

Player of the match went to Roslyn Neill, while Linda Kerr was named captain’s player of the match.
