Bangor, Northern Ireland – After an eight-year climb back from relegation, Bangor FC has officially secured its place in the Northern Ireland Football League Premiership, sparking celebrations across the city and inspiring fans throughout the region.
The Seasiders clinched promotion with a thrilling 1-0 victory over H&W Welders at Clandeboye Park on Saturday, capping off a remarkable journey from the depths of the Ballymena and Provincial Football League to top-tier Northern Irish football.
This milestone marks a major comeback for a club that has faced significant challenges, both financially and operationally. With manager Lee Feeney at the helm, Bangor FC has rebuilt its squad, revitalised Clandeboye Park, and reignited the spirit of its fanbase.
A City Celebrates
The victory has received widespread praise from local politicians, community leaders, and football supporters across North Down.
MP Alex Easton called the club’s promotion a “moment of pride for the city of Bangor”, adding:
“This promotion is a testament to the hard work, passion, and determination shown by the players, coaching staff, and everyone working behind the scenes. The incredible support from fans who stood by the team through thick and thin should not be underestimated.”
MLA Stephen Dunne also offered his congratulations, saying:
“This achievement represents a moment of immense pride not only for the club, but also for the entire Bangor community. Bangor FC continues to inspire the next generation of young footballers in the area.”
Councillor Wesley Irvine echoed the praise, describing the club’s rise through the leagues as “tremendous”:
“After falling out of senior football, Bangor FC has fought its way back, and they fully deserve this success. The support at Clandeboye Park has been outstanding, and this Saturday’s championship trophy presentation is sure to draw another huge crowd.”
A Club Reborn
Bangor FC’s recent promotion follows a string of determined performances in the Playr-Fit Championship, showcasing the strength of a club committed to its values, community, and long-term vision.
Their success has not only put Bangor FC back on the national football map but has also brought a renewed sense of pride and unity to the city of Bangor, which was officially granted city status in 2022.
As fans prepare to pack the stands again this weekend to celebrate the club’s championship title presentation, one thing is clear — Bangor FC is back where it belongs, and the future looks bright.
