BANGOR Golf Club’s Senior Cup team defeated Tandragee courtesy of tie holes in a pulsating semi-final clash at Lisburn Golf Club on Sunday afternoon.
The contest was tied at 2-2 after the first four games, with Max Carson and Max Thallon securing the two wins for Bangor, leaving Lewis Gowdy with the responsibility of deciding the match.
Gowdy’s game finished all square after 18 holes, meaning a suddendeath, tie-hole shootout to settle the score.
Both players traded blows, but the tie was only decided when Gowdy played a magnificent bunker shot to secure victory for his side at the fifth extra hole, almost six hours after the
semi-final had commenced.
Bangor now take their place in the Ulster South Final, where they will play either Warrenpoint or Clandeboye.
The final will be held at Clandeboye Golf Club on Sunday, August 9, and should be a great occasion for all at Bangor Golf Club.
Team captain Ricky Dorman and his squad of players have had a stellar season thus far, and reaching this showpiece is a just reward for their efforts.
