BANGOR Hockey Club has announced appointments to two key roles ahead of the 2026/27 season.
Ryan Burgess has been appointed to the position of Director of Hockey, while James Trimble has been added to the coaching team.
As Director of Hockey, Burgess will oversee all hockey operations across the men’s, ladies’ and Junior sections, ensuring a joined-up approach to player and coach development throughout the club.
He will work closely with the coaching team to develop and implement programmes across all age groups, support the development of the core playing talent, and introduce structured
strength and conditioning training.
What’s more, he will be responsible for creating a clear pathway for players from junior
hockey through to the senior teams, while helping to build a strong, positive culture that benefits everyone at the club.
Club chair Dave McClune said: “We’re delighted to welcome Ryan as our Director of Hockey. His knowledge, enthusiasm and vision for player development make him an excellent fit for Bangor Hockey Club.
“This appointment represents another positive step forward as we continue to strengthen every section of the club and provide the best possible environment for our players to develop and succeed.”
Meanwhile, Trimble, a familiar face around the club, has been a valued member of Bangor Hockey Club for many years, both on and off the pitch.
His passion for the game, commitment to player development and understanding of the club’s values make him an excellent addition to the coaching setup.
Currently a member of the Ulster U-21 coaching team, Trimble previously served Queen’s University Hockey Club, where he earned a reputation for developing players, fostering a positive team culture and achieving success through hard work and high standards.
Working alongside the coaching team and Director of Hockey, he will play a key role in supporting players, helping to develop individual performance while contributing to the continued growth and success of the Bangor club.
McClune added: “We’re thrilled to welcome James into this coaching role. Having been a longstanding member of Bangor Hockey Club, he understands exactly what the club is about.
“His success at Queen’s University speaks for itself, and we’re excited to see the experience, professionalism and enthusiasm he will bring as we continue to build for the future.”
