Bangor Man Runs Half Marathon in Memory of Mum to Support NI Hospice

A Bangor man is lacing up his running shoes in memory of his late mother to raise vital funds for the Northern Ireland Hospice.

Colum Stalford (35) will take part in the AJ Bell Great Birmingham Run on May 4, aiming to raise £6,000 for the charity that supported his family during his mother’s final days. So far, Colum has raised over £3,500 and is continuing to fundraise in the lead-up to the race.

To boost donations, Colum is hosting a fundraising night at the Imperial Bar, Central Avenue, Bangor, on Thursday, April 17. The event will feature live performances from the award-winning Ards Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann, alongside singers, dancers, and guest artists. Entry is free, with donations to NI Hospice warmly welcomed.

“My mum, Colette, passed away on November 3, 2024, after a long and courageous battle with cancer,” said Colum. “The NI Hospice gave her and our family dignity, compassion, and peace in her final days. I’m running to give something back to this amazing organisation.”

Colum praised the palliative care team at NI Hospice for their exceptional support, adding:

“The Hospice truly is a priceless gift. They rely on fundraising, and I want to do my part to help others receive the same care my mum did.”
