BANGOR schoolboy Alex Andrews is set to scale new heights as he prepares to test his off-road motorcycling skills on the continent later this month.

The 15 year-old Bangor Academy student was recently crowned the ACU British Extreme Enduro champion for 2025, which followed on from him winning the sport’s Irish youth title.

Now, Alex is set to travel to the PreZero Arena in Gliwice, Poland, next weekend for the first round of the 2026 FIM SuperEnduro World Championships.

Extreme Enduro is a form of off-road motorcycle racing that combines the technical obstacles of trials riding with the challenges of motocross and cross-country racing.

Demanding both physical and mental resilience, it sees riders navigate through the most difficult terrain such as rocks, mud, steep inclines and water crossings, often requiring them to dismount, push, or even carry their bikes over obstacles.

His mum, Hayley, admitted she ‘has to close my eyes’ at times when watching Alex in action, but spoke of her pride in his achievements to date.

She said of her son’s exploits: “Alex lives, breathes and sleeps it.

“He works really hard and has even built his own track on the family farm near Groomsport to practise on.”

Alex has benefitted from the sponsorship of HTM Motorcycles, near Ballymoney, and has thanked everyone who has helped him towards his success.
