A TALENTED young piper from Bangor has taken home first place in a top solo piping competition in Co. Waterford and also secured a much sought after set of bagpipes in the process.

Ten-year-old Harry Bell-Hamilton triumphed in the utnder-12 Practice Chanter category at the Ardmore Cup, a prestigious piping event held in the Co Waterford town. Despite only having taken up piping relatively recently, Harry impressed the judges with his skill and dedication.

His tutor and proud grandfather, Caldwell Hamilton, was instrumental in his success, passing down his knowledge and expertise through their shared passion for piping.

Cleland Memorial Pipe Band, of which both are members, has expressed pride in Harry’s achievement.

Christopher Forsyth from the band, congratulated Harry on his success.

“Winning first place at the Ardmore Cup at just 10 years old is a fantastic achievement, and it’s even more special that he was tutored by his grandfather. We’re all very proud of him,” he said.

Cleland Memorial Pipe Band is based in Bangor and meets for practice every Monday at 7.30pm in the Scout Hall behind Sainsbury’s. The band offers free tuition for those interested in learning.
