BANGOR’S Royal Black District Chapter No 13 is hosting the annual ‘Last Saturday in August’ parade. One hundred and five Preceptories from the County Down Grand Black Chapter taking part accompanied by 95 bands will take part in the event which will take place on August 27.
Supporters can look forward to seeing members of Lurgan Royal Black District Chapter and other visiting Sir Knights taking part in the procession. The ‘Last Saturday in August’ parade is making a return to Bangor as the 2020 demonstration was cancelled due to the ongoing Covid-19 health crisis.
The Royal Black District Chapter last hosted the County parade back in 2007 and the chapter is looking forward to welcoming both new and familiar faces to the town. David Doherty, registrar at Bangor Royal Black District Chapter No 13, said: “There are 13 District Chapters within the County Down Grand Black Chapter.
Bangor last hosted the parade back in 2007 and was due to host it in 2020 until the pandemic struck. “Careful consideration has gone into planning the parade and every effort has been made to attempt to limit disruption to residents and the local business community.”
The parade details are:
- 11.30 am – Bangor Royal Black District Chapter accompanied by County Officers and four bands will parade from Bangor Orange Hall via Hamilton Road, Donaghadee Road and Broadway to the assembly area at Ward Park playing fields.
- Noon – Main parade will move off from Ward Park and parade via Broadway, Donaghadee Road, High Street, Bridge Street, Main Street, Hamilton Road, Park Drive, Castle Street and Gransha Road back to Ward Park playing fields. A service of worship will take place at which the guest speaker will be the Sovereign Grand Master Most Worshipful Sir Knight Rev. William Anderson JP.
- 4pm – Return parade will move off from Ward Park via Gransha Road, Castle Street, Main Street, Abbey Street to Newtownards Road/ Belfast Road.
