BANGOR seconds battled back from a first-quarter deficit to claim a 46-35 victory over Donaghadee seconds in a thrilling netball match on Sunday afternoon.
With standout performances from both the attacking and defensive units, Bangor showed resilience and teamwork to secure the win.
The first quarter saw Donaghadee take an early lead, finishing 14-11 ahead. Bangor’s shooting duo, Anna Devany (GS) and Chloe Creighton (GA), worked well together in the attacking circle, but Donaghadee’s strong start, combined with a solid performance from their midcourt, kept them in front.
Ellie Green (WA) was instrumental in feeding the shooters and moving the ball efficiently up the court.
In the second quarter, Bangor’s defence stepped up to the challenge. The trio of Abby Bittles (GD), Jenny Graham (GK), and Lynda Perkins (WD) limited Donaghadee’s shooting opportunities, and Bangor’s attacking play began to click.
With the help of a dynamic centre court performance from Chloe McAvera (C), Bangor managed to take a 25-19 lead into halftime, outscoring Donaghadee 14-5 in the quarter.
The third quarter saw a change for Bangor, with Ros Neill coming into wing attack. This substitution brought fresh energy to the team and allowed Ellie Green to move into wing defence, where she continued to create fast, fluid transitions.
The tactical change helped Bangor extend their lead to 35-25 by the end of the third quarter, with Devany and Creighton continuing to capitalise on their strong connection in the shooting circle.
Bangor kept their composure in the final quarter, finishing 46-35 to claim the win. Donaghadee fought hard but could not find a way through Bangor’s solid defence.
The shooting duo of Devany, and Creighton provided a steady flow of goals, while the defence worked together to deny Donaghadee any late comeback opportunities.
