A WOMAN has been charged with attempted murder after a man was run over with a car in Bangor.
Louise Wright (33), of Marquis Manor in the city, appeared before Downpatrick Magistrates’ Court on Monday via video link from Musgrave PSNI station.
She was charged with one count of attempted murder, one count of dangerous driving, one count of driving while unfit and one count of possessing the class A drug cocaine.
A police officer told the court that police were contacted around 7.15am on Sunday by ambulance staff as a man was trapped under a car near Springhill Retail Park.
Wright was alleged to have been the driver of the vehicle and was found to be in possession of a quantity of cocaine.
The man was taken to hospital for treatment after being run over, the police officer told the court.
“He is critical and in intensive care. He’s had surgery. At this point, the hospital hasn’t provided any further updates,” she said.
Wright’s defence solicitor applied for bail for her client to reside in Millisle.
“She wishes me to convey that her thoughts and prayers are with the injured party,” the solicitor said.
She said that her client is currently unemployed, but previously held a managerial position until she stopped attending work a few months ago and ‘was let go’.
Deputy District Judge Brian Archer released Wright on bail to reside with her mother in Millisle.
He also put in place a surety of £750 and a number of conditions, including that Wright be electronically tagged, must adhere to a curfew, is not to attend the Royal Victoria Hospital, must not drive a car and must attend with her GP for help with her substance use.
“If you breach any of these conditions, you will be arrested for breach of bail and remanded in custody,” he told the defendant.
He adjourned the case to Ards Magistrates’ Court sitting on August 21.
