A BANGOR centenarian celebrated her milestone birthday with family last Friday.
Joan McDowell celebrated her 100th birthday on Friday, December 1st with her family and friends, including a granddaughter who flew in from Canada.
Joan got married in 1949 to Wallace, who passed away in 2009 and had twin daughters, Barbara and Kelly. She is now the matriarch to four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Most of her family members popped in over the course of Friday to see their grandmother and have some tea, cake or a cheeky bucks fizz.
Joan said the secret to having a long life is having a ‘wonderful husband’ which one of her son’s in law agreed with.
“A very special surprise was her granddaughter from Canada who flew in unexpectedly so that’s really made her day,” said Joan’s daughter Barbara.
“That was a lovely surprise which was kept secret from the rest of the family so her mother and father had a big surprise when they saw her as well.”
