THOMAS Beaumont has been crowned the 2024 Men’s Club Champion at Bangor Golf Club and the winner of the JF Neill Scratch Cup trophy.

The 28 year-old is now a three-time winner thanks to his rounds of 73 and 74 in the 36 hole event, which was split over two days this year due to inclement weather.  His 147 total was two strokes better than runner up Lewis Gowdy (77-72), with Ben Beaumont third on 153 (77-76).

Shea Dorman won the Chris Boyd Trophy from Max Carson.

It completes a stellar 2024 for Thomas, who is also a member at Portstewart Golf Club where he also won the club championship at the iconic links venue this summer.

Last Sunday the final major men’s stroke play competition of 2024 was played out over 36 holes in glorious autumnal sunshine for the Vice Captain’s Tankard. This select field is taken from the top 32 players over the season’s monthly medal competitions between April-September.

The winner on the day was 21 handicapper James Nicholson, whose two nett scores of 65 and 68 giving him a comfortable four shot victory on a total of 133.  Runner up was Ryan Bellon on 137 (69-68) whilst Paul Coard was third on 139 (68-71).

Aaron Preston, 66 nett, won the morning round prize whilst Andy Moore, 71 nett,  took the afternoon prize.

The golf course was in fantastic condition, especially the greens and huge credit should go to Alan McKee and his greenkeeping team.

The men’s stableford, played last Friday and Saturday was won by Graham Yarr with 43 points.  The division one winner was Robin Moran, also on 43 points, and three ahead of Chris Yeates, 40 points, and Stephen Montgomery, 39 points.

Peter Craig topped division two with 41 points, beating Stewart Dalzell on the countback with Tyrone Priestly third on 40 points.  Keith Weatherup was the division three winner on 43 points, two ahead of Frank Bogle and Mark Crockford who both scored 41 points. The best gross was won by Mark Sterrett with 34 points.  The nine hole stableford winner was Mark Oliver, 20 points.
