PRE-SEASON FRIENDLY
Bangor 1
Linfield 4
NEW signing Kielan Reid’s third goal in four pre-season outings proved to be merely consolation as Linfield ran out 4-1 winners over Bangor at a sunny Clandeboye Park on Saturday.
Last season’s beaten Irish Cup finalists found themselves four goals to the good at half-time thanks to a hat-trick from Matthew Fitzpatrick and a Darragh McBrien solo effort, with Reid pulling one back for the Seasiders in the 73rd minute from a corner.
The 19 year-old defender, who joined from Linfield Swifts earlier this month, has spoken about how his relationship with Bangor manager Lee Feeney can be key to a successful spell at Clandeboye Park.
He told the club website: “Feeno was with us in Portugal for Linfield’s pre-season last year and he used to take me when I was in the South Belfast Youth League team, so I know the way he works and that’s how the chance to join Bangor came about.
“Scoring goals from set pieces and playing out from the back is what I’m good at, that’s what I think I can add.
“I feel now is a good time to get a few more minutes at senior level,” continued Reid, who played in the 2021 Steel and Sons Cup final aged just 16.
“You learn loads from playing in games like that, playing men’s football is what I’ve always wanted to do and I believe I’ve got the opportunity to go and do that.”
