PUPILS at Kilcooley Primary have been learning about how to look after their homes thanks to an inspired storytelling project delivered by the Housing Executive.
Almost 40 children listened to a reading of Hattie the House, a story about a boy’s talking house that becomes poorly in winter.
With the help of an inspector, Hattie gets better again, teaching children that homes – like people – need care and attention.
Michelle Bishop, P2/3 teacher at Kilcooley Primary, said: “Thank you to the Housing Executive for delivering such a brilliant and important session.
“Our students were delighted to receive their own copy of Hattie the House and they enjoyed learning about everyday actions we can all take to keep our homes safe and healthy.”
Pupils also heard from the Housing Executive’s local area team about how they look after homes in Ards and North Down.
Jill Gallagher, assistant area manager at the Housing Executive, said: “We were delighted to share Hattie the House with the children and inspire them, as future tenants and homeowners, about the importance of caring for their homes.”
