Castle cap off memorable season with convincing win
CASTLE FC II 8
QUEENS GRADS IV 2
BY CONNOR MCMAHON
LEAGUE champions Castle Seconds welcomed an in-form Queens team to the Sportsplex who were looking to add to their three consecutive league wins.
With the pressure off, Castle still had a point to prove with the awards night looming and personal player accolades up for grabs.
After withstanding an early barrage, the Queens resolve was finally broken. After some excellent link up play between Carson and Brown, the latter found himself clean through and made no mistake, slotting through the goalkeeper’s legs to open the scoring. Minutes later Brown grabbed his second of the afternoon, with some intricate passing from Martin and Carson, Brown was through again to double the lead. Castle grabbed a third just before half-time with Carson tapping home an Adair cross to give a comfortable lead at the break.
With the second half underway, Castle came flying out in the same manner. Straight from kick off a searching cross forced the Queens centre-back into poking past the ’keeper into his own net. It was time for Castle’s top scorer for the season, James Adair to get in on the action. After picking the ball up from Brown the silky play maker sent an indomitable effort far into the right corner.
Queens then managed to pull one back but Castle were quick to respond with Wassall netting a quick fire double and was very unlucky not to notch a hat-trick, seeing his last effort clip the post. R Wright then pulled another back for Queens.
The scoring was completed on the day by none other than Mikey Brown, grabbing his hat trick, heading home an Adair corner and rounding off a fantastic display.
A memorable day for Clubman of the year, Conor Finlay who donned the captain’s armband off the bench.
Man of the Match on the day was Mikey Brown who dictated play from the get go and bagged a very impressive and deserved hat-trick.
Castle will return next season, this time looking to stake a claim in the DAWL Reserve 1.
