Bangor Business Awards finalists confirmed for 2022
More than 50 local businesses shortlisted after record number of entries…
The wait is almost over! The finalists for this year’s Bangor Business Awards have finally been revealed, paving the way for a gala night of celebrations on Thursday, November 3, at Clandeboye Lodge when businesses and personalities across 16 categories will be confirmed as the best in Bangor.
Designed to showcase the commitment, resilience, perseverance and innovation demonstrated by the hundreds of small and medium-sized businesses from across the area, this year’s awards will celebrate those who went the extra mile during what was a particularly challenging period over the last three years. Principally sponsored by Ards and North Down Borough Council, the awards cover 16 major categories, incorporating tourism and hospitality, retailing, technology, marketing and sustainability to deliver a new suite of business leaders for the city.
Commending Bangor’s business community for the unprecedented scale of high quality entries and those businesses who made the final cut, Bangor Chamber of Commerce President Geoff Thompson said: “Huge congratulations to all of this year’s Bangor Business Awards 2022 finalists who have been chosen from a record number of entries for what will be the first in-person awards ceremony since 2019. This year’s awards have been eagerly anticipated by our business community, which has experienced challenges and uncertainty and, for many, a change of plan or a move in a new direction. “However, though challenges remain, Bangor’s businesses have demonstrated their commitment to grow, to succeed, innovate and thrive and to championing their enterprising success and the commitment shown by their valuable teams of staff and exceptional employees. I wish everyone the very best of luck for this year’s awards – our biggest and best yet.” The Bangor Business Awards also recognise and celebrate the huge contribution that smaller businesses and the self-employed make to local prosperity and to making Bangor a great place to live, visit and invest in.
This year’s award submissions were carefully analysed and scrutinised by a panel of esteemed judges which included John Keane, Chief Executive officer of creative advertising and marketing agency Ardmore, a Campaign UK Top 30 Regional Agency which incorporates top UK ecommerce agency Built for Growth Digital and Northern Ireland PR Consultancy of the Year LK Communications. The experienced judging panel also included Brenda Buckley, Commercial Director of Northern Ireland leading business magazine, Business Eye, and Glyn Roberts, Chief Executive of Retail NI, the region’s only business organisation which represents and champions the independent retail sector in Northern Ireland at every level of government. Brenda Buckley said: “Bangor’s business recovery and its commitment to growth following the devastating effects of the Covid-19 pandemic have very much been evident in the exceptionally high standard of entry for this year’s awards and it has heartening to review the business stories and reflect on the sheer hard graft and innovation that has been shown by businesses of all sizes. “As the new city’s recovery continues, I’m delighted that this year’s awards provide a timely, and much-needed reason for celebration after a particularly difficult time and I congratulate everyone for taking part and wish every success to those businesses and personalities who have made it to the final.” John Keane said: “Our local businesses are the lifeblood of our communities and I was delighted to be invited to join an eminently experienced panel of judges to help pinpoint those entries who have demonstrated their commitment to growth, dynamism, resilience and success. “It was a pleasure to come together in person and celebrate the work of so many of our leading businesses who are providing jobs and growth, and are continuing to invest. Every business and personality who has entered has clearly demonstrated that they are a huge asset to Bangor and their role in helping to create a new future-focused business community that will have a successful future ahead.
Congratulations to everyone who entered and who made the final list.” This year’s category sponsors are Penny Smith Estates, J Hatty Insurances, Bloomfields Retailers, North Down Development Organisation, Hamilton and Morris Waugh, EPOS NI, Wilson Nesbitt, Oasis Travel, Focus, Roam, Tileworks, Hive Project and Retail NI.
