Bangor is a vibrant city, with lots of fantastic independent shops and businesses and plenty to do.
Over the next seven weeks, we will be showcasing some of the highlights of what the city has to offer. This initiative from Bangor Chamber of Commerce, supported by the Spectator and Ards and North Down Borough Council is a reminder to come on in to Bangor, take a walk down the side streets and explore.
Titled ‘Come on In’, the campaign highlights the strength, diversity, and vibrancy of Bangor’s local business community. Featuring real business owners and staff from across the city, the campaign will be visible across billboards, digital adverts, bus ads, and social media, all designed to encourage residents to explore and support the many independent shops, cafés, services, and not-for-profit organisations that make Bangor unique.
As part of the campaign, the County Down Spectator will run a special feature section each week, shining a spotlight on local businesses and telling the stories behind them.

To further engage the public, a prize draw will offer the chance to win a luxury hamper packed with goodies, including food, drinks, and vouchers – all generously donated by member businesses of the Chamber of Commerce.
President of the Bangor Chamber of Commerce Frank Shivers said:
“We are delighted to support our members with this campaign to remind people of all the great shops, businesses and not-for-profits we have across the city. There is much to celebrate and enjoy about our city, so we encourage people to ‘Come on in’ and explore what’s on offer.”
The campaign not only aims to boost footfall for local businesses but also to strengthen community ties by encouraging residents to rediscover the charm and quality of what’s available right on their doorstep.
Mayor of Ards and North Councillor Gillian McCollum said: “It’s great to see this campaign rolling out across Bangor – all the more vibrant for featuring local faces that many of us know. Bangor residents are very supportive of our business community, but this is a good reminder of the wide range of family run businesses and independent traders we have in the city. I hope we will see many people ‘Come On In’ to Bangor in the coming months.”
