A SPECIAL reception has been held in Bangor Castle for two local dog lovers who are off to the world-famous Crufts.
Sophia-Rose Beaumont, from Holywood, and Brenda Patterson, from Killinchy, have been selected as part of the Northern Ireland Inter-regional Crufts Obedience Team which will compete at the Birmingham event.
Sophia-Rose, as well as being part of the Crufts NI Obedience Team, has also been selected for Kennel Club Special pre beginners and adult stakes for Crufts.
The event was hosted by the Mayor of Ards and North Down, Gillian McCollum.
Afterwards the council said it continues to champion responsible dog ownership across the borough, regularly engaging directly with dog owners at community events and through summer popups in local parks and beaches.
“Council officers also deliver educational visits to schools, helping young people learn how to stay safe around dogs and understand the importance of responsible ownership from an early age,” said a spokesman.
“The council’s commitment to supporting dog owners is further reflected in its programme of positive, accessible education, including puppy socialisation classes beginning in March.
“This proactive approach is supported by robust measures designed to promote safer, more responsible dog ownership across the Borough. Addressing dog fouling remains a key priority with awareness campaigns, improved signage and regular patrols helping to ensure that our public spaces remain clean, safe and welcoming for all,” he said.
