The countdown is now under way to Bangor Regatta 2026, which will take place at Royal Ulster Yacht Club from Thursday, June 25 to Sunday, June 28. Just six months out, organisers say momentum is building fast for what is shaping up to be one of the stand-out sailing events of the year.

Held off Bangor’s coast, the regatta will see yachts compete for the prestigious Bangor Town Trophy, while also hosting the Sigma 33 Class Championship. Owners of the popular one-design class are expected to travel from across the Irish Sea to battle it out for the national title.

Royal Ulster Yacht Club is the organising authority, with committees working behind the scenes to deliver a memorable four-day programme both on and off the water. Entries are already being received from as far afield as the south coast of England and the west coast of Scotland.

Racing will take place across Belfast Lough, combining traditional ‘round-the-cans’ courses with longer races showcasing views of the Copeland Islands.

Off the water, the social programme promises live bands, barbecues on the lawn and DJs in the clubhouse, offering sailors, families and visitors a chance to relax and enjoy the regatta atmosphere against the backdrop of the lough.

Bangor Regatta chairman Gavin Watson said: “With less than six months to go to BR2, and with the sailing season just around the corner, the momentum within our organising team is growing.

“With entries increasing and sailors booking their trips to Bangor it won’t be long before our biennial event is upon us. Please remember our early bird offer ends in March so get your entries in and come join us at RUYC to enjoy what is set to be another wonderful event.”

For spectators, prime viewing spots include Seacliff Road, Luke’s Point and the Eisenhower Pier, offering close-up views of the fleet in action.
