VOLUNTEERS from the Bangor Poppy Appeal have been recently treated to a special reception at Stormont.

Hosting the volunteers at Parliament buildings, North Down MLA Stephen Dunne, paid tribute to their outstanding fundraising efforts and continued dedication to supporting veterans and their families.

Last year, the Bangor Poppy Appeal raised an impressive £72,000, a real testament to the hard work of local volunteers and the generosity of the wider community.

Speaking after the visit, Mr Dunne said the volunteers are individuals who give their time freely, often behind the scenes throughout the year, to support those who have served the country and their families.

“Raising over £72,000 in a single year is a remarkable achievement, and I know every year they raise an incredible amount,” he said. “That doesn’t happen by chance. It takes commitment, organisation and a genuine passion for the cause. Every pound raised makes a real difference to veterans and their loved ones who may be facing hardship, injury or isolation.

“The Poppy Appeal remains one of the most important fundraising efforts in our calendar. It reminds us not only of the sacrifices made by past and present members of our Armed Forces, but also of our responsibility to continue supporting them long after their service ends.

“I was delighted to give the volunteers a tour of Parliament Buildings and to host a reception in their honour. It was a small gesture of appreciation for the enormous contribution they make to our community in Bangor.”
