SATURDAY’S draw with Armagh City should be a timely reminder that there is plenty of work to be done if Bangor want to push for promotion this season, according to boss Lee Feeney.
The 45 year-old was less than impressed with his side’s performance at Clandeboye Park on Saturday and even though the Seasiders hold a 10-point advantage over the chasing pack, Feeney has warned his players not to let complacency creep into their game.
“I don’t think we deserved to win the game,” he admitted.
“But I don’t think the result is a bad thing at all. It’s good for the players, good for the club and good for the supporters to be reminded that this isn’t going to be easy,” said Feeney.
“We aren’t going to get our own way each week and there is no guarantee of three points.
“If we want to be promoted then we are going to have to work hard for it, so Saturday’s result is a good reminder to everyone to keep their feet on the ground.
“It felt like a defeat, and I expect a reaction similar to how we responded when we lost to Ballinamallard a few weeks ago.”
The Seasiders finished the month with an impressive 16 points from a possible 18, a run of fixtures which included playing away against the teams that were second, third and fourth in the league table.
But Feeney has set high standards for his Bangor side, and he was frustrated not to see out the month with six victories.
He continued: “We wanted maximum points from the month so that’s disappointing but we have to learn from it.
“Expectations have gone up week on week, and this is a timely reminder that there is still plenty of work to do.
“Compared to what we have been, and how we have been playing in recent weeks, I thought we were a shadow of ourselves on Saturday and we didn’t really have anyone that had a standout performance.
“Even though we created the clearer cut chances, Armagh deserved something out of the game and when we were one goal up I thought it was very unfair on them.
“I thought we were maybe too casual and too relaxed in our play. I didn’t see the same fight and desire that I’ve seen plenty of over recent weeks.”
