BANGOR Ladies secured a comprehensive win at home to Civil Service on Saturday as they opened up a four point lead at the top of Senior 2.
They set the tone within the opening five minutes, Ellie Dines winning a penalty stroke early on which was converted by Brooke Stranaghan for the perfect start.
The team continued to apply pressure and Matilda Urry narrowly missed the target from a short corner.
Bangor’s persistence paid off shortly after when Stranaghan delivered a precise pass into Urry at the penalty spot, who calmly finished to double the lead.
Zoe Stewart then set up Zara McKee for another well-taken goal, putting Bangor firmly in control.
In the second and third quarters, Bangor completely dominated possession. They won numerous short corners and spent the majority of the time inside Civil Service’s circle, however strong defending and near misses kept the scoreline unchanged during this period.
In the final quarter, Bangor showed no signs of slowing down. Nessie Monaghan produced an outstanding individual moment when she took on and beat a defender straight from a hit-out before finding the back of the net. Monaghan added her second and Bangor’s fifth from a short corner to complete the scoring, with her attacking impact earning her the player of the match award.
