THE family of an RAF navigator from Bangor, whose plane was shot down during WW2, have been found after the story was featured in the Spectator.
Last month we reported that navigator sergeant John Alexander McLearnon was held as a prisoner of war after his plane came down in Germany.
All but two of the crew were killed in the crash, which happened near Ramsen on August 10, 1943.
The Bangor man was saved when he landed in a tree after parachuting out of the Halifax bomber JD369.
His story came to public attention thanks to the dogged research of German crash site investigator Erik Wiemen, who asked for the Spectator’s help in tracing the airman’s family.
