Mencap Easter Disco Brings Inclusive Nightlife to Bangor

A feel-good Easter disco for adults with learning disabilities and autism is coming to Bangor Court House on Tuesday, April 14 – and everyone’s invited to join the fun.

Hosted in partnership with Mencap NI and Bangor Gateway Club, the event is all about social inclusion, offering adults with learning disabilities a safe, supportive, and exciting night out.

A Night of Music, Dancing, and Inclusion

Doors open at 7pm, and the dancefloor will come alive with music from popular local DJs including DJ Venus Rollergirl, DJ Gems, and DJ Con Rob – all returning by popular demand after rocking the last Mencap disco.

Buddy tickets are free for support workers, carers, parents, or family members attending alongside a guest.

Why It Matters

Alison Gordon, Development Director at Bangor Court House, explained the venue’s commitment to accessibility:

“Many young people with learning disabilities or autism don’t feel safe or confident in regular nightlife spaces. We’re proud to offer a welcoming, supportive environment where they can enjoy the same experience as any other customer.”

She added that staff at the Court House are trained in disability awareness and that the venue’s buddy scheme ensures everyone feels comfortable and supported.

More Than Just a Disco

Emma Harte, Mencap NI’s Community Engagement Lead, says these discos have a deeper purpose:

“These nights aren’t just about dancing – they’re about belonging, independence, and joy. People with learning disabilities deserve the same opportunities to socialise, make friends, and feel valued in their community.”

Mencap Discos began in Cookstown three years ago and have grown in popularity thanks to their inclusive atmosphere and positive impact.

“Social inclusion isn’t a bonus – it’s a right,” added Emma. “And from that comes confidence, independence, and strong community connections.”
