TALENTED Holywood author Nick Cann is looking forward to launching his latest book ‘Why Malcolm’ in his home town next month.

The local writer will be signing copies of his new novel at Stewart Miller in Holywood on Saturday, December 7 from 10am.

Packed with dramatic twists and turns and dark humour ‘Why Malcolm?’ has already attracted some enthusiastic support with Nicola Jeal, an award-winning editor at The Times, saying ‘I love Nick Cann’s writing’.

Explaining the plot of his latest literary creation Nick said: “Why Malcom? Is a dramatic crime novel set in Holywood and revolves around the adventures of protagonist Philip Hughes.

“When Hughes’s wife, Natalie, is diagnosed with terminal cancer Philip suggests they cash in their life insurance policy and blow the money on making the most of whatever time they have left together.

“When Philip realises that to cash in the policy he’ll have to fake his own death, he paddle boards out to sea from a beach on Belfast Lough and doesn’t return. Pandemonium follows when his disappearance is reported to the police.”

Nick went on to explain: “Meanwhile, Philip is lying low in a safe house waiting for his wife to bring him much needed

supplies. When she doesn’t turn up as expected, Philip is stranded.”

With his books often based in the borough, Nick said: “Since my books are often set in North Down, they have always been well received in Holywood and Bangor.

“One of the best things about having a book signing in Stewart Miller in Holywood is when local people come up to me and tell me that they enjoy reading my books. Positive appreciation makes the long writing process completely worthwhile.

“Stewart Miller is giving the book a huge boost and I am very grateful to the shop’s owner, Stephen Miller and his staff for their support.”
