CHILDREN raced for the swings, scrambled up climbing frames and put Seapark’s brand new play equipment to the test as a major £250,000 refurbishment was officially unveiled in Holywood last week.
Pupils from St Patrick’s Primary School joined Mayor Gillian McCollum at the popular coastal park on Friday to celebrate the completion of the extensive upgrade funded through the Levelling Up Fund.
The investment forms part of the borough’s wider play initiative aimed at creating more inclusive and engaging outdoor spaces for children and families.
Youngsters wasted no time exploring the revamped facilities, which include new swings, slides and climbing units designed to cater for a range of ages and abilities.
The refurbished site also features Rubina-style wooden play equipment, selected to complement Seapark’s scenic coastal setting while providing a durable and modern play environment.
Council officials said the redesigned area encourages imaginative play, physical activity and social interaction, while improved accessibility means more children can enjoy the space together safely.
Mayor McCollum said it was ‘fantastic’ to see Seapark play area transformed through the investment.
“Spaces like this are vital for our communities, giving children a safe and inclusive place to play,” she said.
“I was delighted to meet pupils from St Patrick’s Primary School and see how much they are already enjoying the new facilities. This is a great example of our ongoing commitment to improving play spaces across the borough.”
The Seapark refurbishment is one of several improvement projects planned across the borough as part of the council’s continued investment in recreational facilities.
Further upgrades are already scheduled for play parks in Ballyhalbert, Millisle, Tullymally and other locations in the months ahead.
