MEMBERS of the Mizukara Karate Clubs in Ards and Bangor took part in their annual summer camp last weekend.
The camp was led by former world champion David Brashaw and current world silver medallist Amy Adair at the Bangor Methodist Centre and Crawfordsburn Country Park.
The course consisted of fun, games, self-defence, kata (patterns) training and of course Kumite (sparring). Additionally, Sensei David coached some relaxing Tai Chi exercises.
The culmination of the camp was a team kumite match where all participants got to fight against their training buddies.
Immediately after the camp, a grading was held, and the following belts were achieved:
Red belt – Bella Gleave, Oscar Allen, Chloe Gleave, Olivia Connery and Sophia Gleave.
Yellow and White – Gracie O’Brien.
Yellow – Niamh Greer and Ewa Mazur.
Yellow and Orange – Freya Grindle and Ishaan Vuddanti.
Blue – Angela McEvilly and Kath Stevenson.
“We had a brilliant camp,” said Sensei Amy. “It was great seeing so many families enjoying our karate activities. I’d especially like to congratulate the students who achieved their next belt in karate.”
Mizukara students are now training hard for three international competitions coming up in September.
