Boss issues warning after Bangor’s below-par showing

BANGOR manager Lee Feeney has stressed his side ‘have a lot of work to do’ before they can entertain thoughts of winning the NIFL Championship title.

The Seasiders conceded a last-minute equalizer on Tuesday night as they were held to a 2-2 draw by North Down rivals Ards.

Results elsewhere in midweek meant that in the end, a draw did Bangor no real harm, remaining eight points clear at the league summit after title rivals

Limavady United and H&W Welders both failed to win.

Should Bangor beat Limavady this Saturday and the Welders fail to beat Ards, that would see them seal the deal.

But Feeney was more preoccupied with the manner of his side’s performance in the derby.

“I’m just really disappointed in our performance in a big game.,” he said.

“We need to be more ruthless at this stage of the season – the number of chances we’re giving teams to get back into the title race is hurting me.

“The players are hurting in there, and they’re sitting eight points clear with four games to go.

“That’s because they take more pride in their own performances than the circumstances. We’ve got a lot of work to do before we can think about winning this league.

“Ards should have gone on to win that game at the end. Fair play to them, they were the better side.”

The Kilkeel native went on: “You’re not going to have the league handed to you, there are five games in this split and every one of them is tough. We have to be better than this.”
