Can Bangor Bounce Back? New Art Exhibition Explores the City’s Past and Future…
Bangor, UK – A new art exhibition by local artist Shauna Fox aims to reignite pride in Bangor, reflecting on its vibrant past while urging support for its future.
Titled “Can Bangor Bounce Back?”, the exhibition contrasts the city’s thriving days of the 1950s and 60s with today’s struggles—marked by retail closures and abandoned buildings. The collection, featuring 30 striking acrylic paintings, will be on display at Carnegie Library’s Curve Gallery from April 5 to May 2.
A Visual Journey Through Bangor’s History
Fox’s artwork highlights Bangor’s iconic landmarks, some now lost to time, offering a nostalgic yet thought-provoking perspective. Among the featured locations are:
-
Brompton
-
The Palladium Arcade
-
The Long Hole – A personal favorite of the artist, where she still finds beauty despite visiting since childhood.
Her paintings capture ordinary moments and everyday life, reflecting on the city’s past while calling for change.
A Call for Community Action
The 27-year-old artist, who recently returned from London after seven years, was inspired by stories from her parents, Gerard and Judith Howell. She hopes her exhibition will encourage locals to support Bangor’s regeneration by shopping locally and investing in the city’s cultural scene.
“For years, people have criticized Bangor’s decline. I wanted to document its golden days and compare them with today’s reality. There are still beautiful places here, and I believe Bangor is turning a corner,” says Fox.
She points to the city’s thriving arts and music scene as a beacon of hope, mentioning organizations like Boom Studios, Seacourt Print Workshop, and The Court House, which are helping to build a vibrant, creative community.
Exhibition Details & Grand Opening
The exhibition kicks off with a grand opening event on Saturday, April 5, from 3 PM to 4:30 PM, where visitors will be welcomed with a complimentary drink from local cocktail business Wavey Ice or a soft drink.
This must-see collection promises to stir emotions, spark conversations, and inspire action toward Bangor’s revival. Don’t miss the chance to witness Fox’s stunning artwork and reflect on the past, present, and future of this historic city.
