THE Mayor of Ards and North Down, Gillian McCollum, has named the three charities she will support during her year in office.
The three chosen charities are Orchardville, St Vincent de Paul, and North Down and Ards Women’s Aid.
Orchardville is a charity that helps young people and adults with learning disabilities or autism to live independently and access training and employment. Founded in 1982, it is now a leading provider of disability support services in Northern Ireland and North Down.
St Vincent de Paul is a volunteer-led organisation offering practical support to those facing financial hardship. With six local branches in the borough, two in Bangor and one each in Newtownards, Holywood, Portaferry and Kircubbin, it provides help with essentials such as food, heating, and clothing.
North Down and Ards Women’s Aid supports women, children and young people affected by domestic abuse. Based locally, the charity has offered confidential and non-judgemental services to help survivors feel safe and regain control of their lives since 1982.
“I am proud to support these three charities, each of which provides vital assistance to the people of Ards and North Down. The work they do within our Borough is invaluable,” said the Mayor.
“The overarching theme of my upcoming year as Mayor is that of belonging. As a former school governor, chair of several PTAs, and through my work with volunteers and local charitable organisations, I believe passionately in the power of community and what can be achieved when we work together.
“I look forward to hosting fundraising events throughout the year and would love for as many people as possible to get involved. With your support, we can help make a positive difference.”
