Join Bangor's McClean family for their musical celebration at Bangor Court House.

THREE generations of Bangor’s talented McClean family are set to take to the stage for two special performances of their unique traditional folk sound  at Bangor Court House.

For the past 45 years, the highly-regarded musical family has been entertaining audiences at home and abroad with their impressive talents.

Tickets for their Friday night performance on January 16 have already sold out, but traditional music enthusiasts can still catch their matinee performance, on Saturday, January 17, at 1.30pm.

The family has played a key role in driving the city’s traditional music scene, as they combine performing professionally, teaching and winning awards.

It promises to be both an evening and matinee performance to remember, with over 25 performers taking to the stage including grandparents Donard and Christine.

Looking forward to performing with his family, Niall McClean said: “Spanning three generations with Donard and Christine at the helm this will prove  to be two very special concerts at Bangor Courthouse.

“With over 25 performers, there will be a huge mix of Irish traditional, folk, classical and song; mum Christine might even recite a special poem.

“The family have won many awards, several all Ireland titles, and some have performed alongside some of the world’s finest musicians.”

As chairman of Ards CCÉ, Mr McClean said many of the family have also been instrumental in getting the All-Ireland Fleadh to Belfast in August, with Ards CCÉ co- hosting alongside Belfast City Council.”

He is delighted the family has been able to co-ordinate their busy schedules.

“It proves very difficult to get the family all in the same place so this really is a wonderful celebration of music.”
