HOLYWOOD Men’s Shed has been praised by North Down MP, Alex Easton, for providing a welcoming community space to men.
The Men’s Shed takes part in a number of projects to improve the local community whilst also looking out for the wellbeing of the members.
In March the group handcrafted 20 guillemot seabird nesting boxes which were installed at the harbour’s D3 development.
Mr Easton said the ‘shedders’ provide a vital service to both the community and to each other.
“The Men’s Shed movement provides a vital service by promoting social inclusion, friendship and practical activity for men, particularly those who may be retired, isolated, or simply looking to connect with others in a meaningful way,” he said.
“What I witnessed during my visit was a strong sense of camaraderie, purpose and mutual support that is to be admired and celebrated.
“Holywood Men’s Shed is a fantastic example of how local initiatives can make a real difference to people’s wellbeing. The members are clearly proud of what they’ve built, both in terms of facilities and the spirit of community that exists there.
“I want to commend everyone involved in running and supporting the Shed for their hard work and dedication,” he added.
