NNI SENIOR 3
Bangor II 46
Donaghadee II 48
DONAGHADEE seconds secured a narrow victory over their Bangor counterparts when the two teams met in Senior League 3 on Saturday.
The Bangor side were missing a number of key defensive players, but the team was determined not to let that prevent them competing.
Bangor came out strong in the first half with midcourt Chloe McAvera (C) and Roslyn Neill (WA) bringing the ball up for Anna Devany (GS) and Chloe Creighton (GA) to sink some early goals.
With a one-goal lead going into the second quarter, Bangor’s defence of Abby Bittles (GK) and Ellie Green (GD) worked tirelessly in the circle to make some impressive intercepts and move the ball up through Olivia McMullan (WD) and Bangor’s midcourt, capitalising on the turnovers.
Bangor went into the second half three goals ahead, but fatigue started to set in, allowing Donaghadee to get a streak early in the third quarter. The third quarter continued neck and neck, with Donaghadee one centre pass ahead going into the final quarter.
The final quarter saw the teams compete hard for the lead, but Donaghadee finished with a streak to get two goals ahead at the final whistle.
Player of the match: Abby Bittles.
