A BATTLING Bangor Amateurs tasted defeat for the fourth game running with Jack Shaw’s early own goal the difference on a frustrating afternoon in Hillsborough.

Hosts Downshire moved to the top of Division 1B with the win as the Amateurs, without a number of key regulars and playing with 10 men for 75 minutes, came away empty handed.

The game’s decisive moment arrived after four minutes when Jack Shaw diverted the ball into his own net from a cross from the right.

And TJ Young’s Amateurs were handed an even bigger mountain to climb on the quarter-hour with referee Andrew Butler deeming a Jack Ennis challenge to be a red card offence.

The 10 men however rallied and went close to an equaliser after 35 minutes with a shot sailing just wide of the post.

Further pressure followed from the visitors after the break but an equaliser continued to evade them and tempers then spilled over with Amateurs boss Young, Ben Stanex and Downshire’s Lee Bailie all dismissed in the latter stages for second bookable offences.

The Amateurs are on the road this weekend to face Colin Valley at Good Shephard Road (2pm).
