Sarah’s up and down race weekend
SARAH Gibson was busy over the weekend with two tough races in three days.
On Friday she ran the Rith an Chairn 5k Mountain Race, climbing to the summit of the 464m Carn Tóchair before a faster descent to the finish line.
Sarah was third F50 in 36:10.
Sarah’s second race of the weekend was a flatter road race – the Termonfeckin Half Marathon on Sunday.
Starting and finishing in the Co. Louth town, runners headed towards the eastern outskirts of Drogheda before following the River Boyne as far as Baltray and turning back north to the finish line at St Fechin’s GAA club.
She had clearly shaken off any fatigue from the mountain race two days earlier as she stormed to a 1:30:33 finish, taking second place in the women’s race and 24th overall.
Roberta’s gold medal
ROBERTA Dornan took gold in the W45 400m at the Scottish Masters Track and Field Championships in Dundee on Saturday.
Although injury meant that her time was slower than her recent success at the NI Masters ,Roberta ran 77.31. Despite a swollen calf she also raced in the 200m finishing in 36.62 to take the bronze medal.
Paula’s three-hour challenge
THE latest challenge from the ever popular Gatehouse Events race organisers was a challenge race in the beautiful grounds of the Greyabbey Estate on Saturday.
Runners set off on a trail of a little over three miles and ran continuous loops for three, six or 12 hours. Paula Simpson took on the three-hour challenge and completed over 14 miles, having already set a PB at Victoria Park parkrun that morning.
Fingal 10k
NORTH Down AC’s Stuart Anderson and Brian Geddis headed to Swords on Sunday for the Fingal 10k.
The road race forms part of the Dublin Marathon race series and attracted almost 2,700 runners. Stuart was the 151st finisher in 39:31 with Brian finishing fourth M65 in 43:47.
