Opportunity knocks again for Seasiders

BANGOR have another chance to seal the Championship title this Saturday when they travel to the Blanchflower Stadium in east Belfast.

A win for the Seasiders over second placed H&W Welders will end the title race, while a draw would also be enough for Bangor should Annagh United fail to beat Limavady United at the Showgrounds.

Any other combination of results will see the title decided on the final day of the season when Bangor face Dundela at Clandeboye Park next weekend.

While Bangor missed their first opportunity to be crowned Championship winners last Friday night, Lee Feeney’s side are the only team in control of their own destiny in the race for top spot with two games remaining.

That position of strength provides comfort to the Bangor boss as he prepares his side to do battle on Saturday afternoon.

“We are in a good position and there are no concerns at all in the dressing room,” explained Feeney.

“I’m happy with the way we have performed in the last three games and I think we deserved more from each of the games but that’s football.

“On Saturday I want us to be more ruthless in front of goal and hopefully we’ll start to get a bit of good fortune coming our way now too.

“I don’t think we are getting the rub of the green at the minute,” he added.

“We conceded an offside injury time equaliser against Ards, a 96th minute equaliser against Limavady United and on Friday night one moment changed the whole outcome against Annagh United.

“But we have to do more in front of goal. It feels like our opponents are scoring when they get a chance whereas we’re passing up too many good opportunities.

“Outside of that though I’m really pleased with the way we have been playing and we’re all looking forward to another important game on Saturday.”

Feeney will have to make do without towering defender Kyle Owens. The former Welders man must serve a one-match suspension for the red card he received last week.

Bangor’s defensive options were already stretched against Annagh United through the unavailability of Callum Byers but Feeney will be pleased to welcome Caomhan McGuinness back into his squad this weekend following a two-match suspension.

Paul Kee’s Welders side will know that a victory for them could be crucial in both making sure the title race goes to the final day and also in the race to secure a promotion play-off spot.

Liam Mullen’s winner deep into stoppage time against Dundela last Saturday ensured that the Welders stayed at the front of the chasing pack with Kee’s men one point better off than Annagh United and three points clear of Limavady United as the season heads towards the finish line.
