A BANGOR Taekwon-Do martial artist has been mentioned in parliament after winning two golds at the Irish championships in Co Limerick.

Bangor man Dean Pritchard was mentioned by MP Alex Easton in an Early Day Motion in Westminster after securing two gold medals in the martial art at the Irish Taekwon-Do Championships which were held in November 2024.

Dean earned two gold medals in the patterns and sparring categories.

Having started Taekwon-Do at the age of 20, Dean quickly advanced to a third-degree black belt.

Earlier this year, he founded Elite Taekwon-Do NI at the Aurora Leisure Centre in Bangor, where he continues to train and teach others.

Speaking following the motion, Alex Easton MP said: “It is an honour to present this Early Day Motion to Dean Pritchard in recognition of his incredible achievement.

“Winning two gold medals at a national competition is a huge accomplishment and a testament to his hard work and commitment. He is not only a talented athlete but also an inspiration to young people across North Down.”

The event also celebrated the success of one of Dean’s students, 10-year-old Kristians Frisbergs, from Newtownards, who won a gold medal in the blue belt division for patterns.
