
A PENSIONER’S life was saved by a passing nurse after she was ‘overcome’ during a swim at Groomsport beach on Friday.
It is understood the woman had been swimming when she felt unwell and passed out when she returned to the beach.
A nurse in the area was quickly on the scene and found the woman without a pulse. She performed CPR on the woman and locals said that by the time the emergency services arrived she was ‘sitting up and chatting’.
Members of the public alerted the Coastguard about the incident, which tasked Bangor Coastguard Rescue Team to the scene. The air ambulance, paramedics and the PSNI was also involved in the incident.
A spokesperson for the Coastguard confirmed: “The casualty was provided with emergency medical assistance and resuscitated.
“Bangor Coastguard Rescue Team was called, and the casualty was taken into the care of Northern Ireland Ambulance Service.”
