MORE than 70 local school pupils took part in a fun-filled feast of hockey recently.

Kilmaine Primary School in Bangor hosted its inaugural hockey blitz on Wednesday, March 19 for boys and girls in Years 6 and 7. Several other schools from the north Down area joined the festivities, with most bringing multiple teams, boding well for the health of the sport in the borough.

Six-a-side games were played in a round robin format and with so many local derbies, you could have been forgiven for expecting some fireworks, but it was only smiles that lit up the faces of all involved.

The kids played some fantastic hockey and spectators enjoyed watching the action and enthusiasm on display from participants. At the end of play, the coveted top spot went to one of Kilmaine’s own teams, with free-scoring Towerview PS following closely in second place and Grange PS finishing third.

Thanks go to the volunteers for helping the day to run smoothly, as well as to the schools for joining to make it such a success. Lastly, thanks to Miss Willis of Kilmaine PS for being the passionate driving force behind Kilmaine Hockey Club.
