PLAYR-FIT CHAMPIONSHIP

BANGOR 3

Ferguson 10’, 12’, Arthurs 20’

DUNDELA 1

Prendergast 69’

THREE first-half goals set Bangor on their way to a comfortable victory over Dundela last Friday night.

Two goals within two minutes for striker Matthew Ferguson proved to be the perfect start for the Seasiders, and Lee Feeney’s men never looked back with Ben Arthurs extending his side’s lead inside the opening 20 minutes.

Despite the Duns grabbing a goal midway through the second half thanks to Aaron Prendergast, it was Bangor who picked up three points at Clandeboye Park.

While it was Kyle Owens who went close in the early stages, it was his former H&W Welders teammate Matthew Ferguson who opened the scoring after ten minutes. Captain Lewis Harrison broke forward from midfield before releasing Ferguson, and the striker made no mistake as he fired low under Aaron Hogg to put his side in front.

Ferguson, already with three braces to his name this season, added his second just two minutes later. The Championship’s top scorer darted towards the near post where he connected well with Marty Bradley’s low delivery to send the ball past the helpless Hogg.

Bangor showed no signs of letting up, and they continued to push forward inside a breathless opening 20 minutes. Tiarnan Mulvenna put in the work to reach Harrison’s pass and the former Glenavon man sent the ball invitingly into the six yard box where Ben Arthurs was on hand to bundle home.

Callum Byers and Ben Cushnie entered the fray at half time in place of Kyle Owens and Ben Arthurs, and it took the Seasiders some time to find the rhythm they played with in the first half.

Cushnie did go close for the Seasiders but he could not find a way past Hogg and instead it was the visitors who reduced the deficit after 69 minutes. Prendergast, on loan from Glenavon, fired goal-wards with the ball squirming past James Taylor and into the back of the net.

That goal proved to be a consolation goal for Stephen Gourley’s men as Bangor made sure it was back to back wins in the Championship.
